The strike is to protest arbitrary changes by LJ's new Russian owners such as banning certain words from the Popular Interests list, and eliminating new basic accounts (existing basic accounts are grandfathered) without first soliciting member comments. See [livejournal.com profile] beckyzoole's post on the subject.

Do you know that they banned interests from the "popular interests" list? They're back now and the Evil Overlords claim it was a glitch - that they were trying to sort interests for ad purposes, not eliminate them.

I really don't get the anger, personally. Many sites require ads if you want a free account or have ads that all users see. What is so awful about having ads on new free accounts?

I have a word press blog

I have to say, it's great, if I leave live journal, it will be ok. There are no friend's lists, but I get comments from random people. But, it's hard to make friends and find other blogs on word press. I wish I could import all the great friends I made here over to word press.

I was off LJ all day yesterday and didn't know about it, and so I posted. Ah well.
