Touching Strangers

Richard Renaldi spent the year asking total strangers to touch. Then he took their photos. The results are mysterious, arresting, and — yes, we’ll say it! — touching.

Some of the subjects you’ll find in Renaldi’s gallery are so visibly uncomfortable, you wonder why they agreed in the first place. (See, for instance, the photograph Carlos and Alex, above.) Others, including William and Melissa, Alberto and Rick, and Paul and Carol, look completely at ease — like old friends, or lovers.
