Bush's troop surge
Jan. 9th, 2007 06:48 pmThis war resembles the Vietnam war in reverse: first LBJ escalated & then Nixon tried "Vietnamization." For the past 3 years Bush has said that Iraqis would assume more & more of the responsibility for their own security, & now that it's clear to everyone that the Iraqis can't or won't do so Bush is trying escalation. It reminds me of the Tom Paxton lyric:
"Lyndon Johnson told the nation
Never fear escalation,
We are trying everone to please.
Though it isn't really war
We're sending 50,000 more
To help save Vietnam from the Vietnamese."
