We know his brother, Harry Chevan, who asked me to pass this along.

David Chevan writes:

What a great weekend we had sharing our music in Ithaca.
Everything we
participated in--from the lecture/recital on Thursday through our
concert on Saturday night was incredible. We were filled with
the
ecstasy of prayer and performance. So somehow we came down from
all of
that and got in our vans and we made it back home from Ithaca
okay and
we even had a great little day off from playing and then . . .
.
yesterday we got hit with some tough news.

And so The Afro-Semitic Experience needs a little help from you.

The Manhattan JCC is deciding to cancel our performance on
account of
low ticket sales.

Many of you have family and friends in the New York City area or
you
live there. You need to let them know right away about us and
what we
can do in the course of our music. I've listed the info about
the
performance below. Pleae pass this info or this e-mail along to
as many
people as you can and urge them to call the Manhattan JCC and
reserve
tickets before it is too late and we lose our only scheduled
concert in
New York City this year!!

Here's the details:

Thursday, September 22, AFRO-SEMITIC EXPERIENCE with special
guest Frank
London, Days of Awe concert, 8:00 p.m. at The Jewish Community
Center in
Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue at 76 Street, New York City,
646-505-4444.

One last little thing--Afro-Semitic drummer, Alvin Carter and I
were
bumped Monday for the great author Walter Moseley (if you gotta
get
bumped for someone this is the guy!!) so now we will be
interviewed on
Wednesday, September 20, at 9:05 am on WWRL AM 1600. The best
part is
that you don't even have to be in New York City to hear us. You
can
also tune in and listen on the internet by going to
www.wwrl1600.com.

B'Shalom,

David

"Imagine Charles Mingus sitting in with a Klezmer band, playing
Gospel
music set to the polyrhythmic pace of the congas and bongos. Such
seemed
the case when the Afro-Semitic Experience transformed Bnai Keshet
into a
whoopin', hollerin', testifyin' celebration of multicultural soul
music." Carlos Ramos, The Rainbow Reporter

"The Afro-Semitic Experience is one of the best jazz bands
working today
(really)" jazzreview.com

"the Afro-Semitic Experience rocks the house" George Robinson,
The
Jewish Week

what impresses most about this music is that it's not a mere
exercise in
world music mix and match. This is music of fire and passion and
that's
what Jazz is all about." Robert Iannapollo, Cadence

"the Afro-Semitic Experience evokes the sound of cultural shift,
of a
melting pot, of spirituality and devotion and ceremony, of
partying and
praying and jamming. . . .A danceable, trance-causing flurry of
notes
with godly underpinnings. Underneath all the oomph you feel the
warmth,
wealth fury and pain of whole nations, repressed cultures,
challenged
beliefs. This band is the sound of the past, the present and the
great
beyond all at once." Christopher Arnott, The New Haven Advocate
