car update
Aug. 20th, 2006 03:20 pmOur car, a 1995 Buick Century V6 w/ABS & AC, has reached the point where we should sell it. It has a tendency to overheat due to leaky seals and valves under the engine (removing the engine to fix the leaks would be prohibitively expensive). It runs well on short trips and in cool weather, but we must keep it out of bumper to bumper traffic at all costs (not easy in the tri-state nyc area), so it would be wise to sell it; Labor Day weekend we'll put a for sale sign on it. It was a hand-me-down from my dad, and we don't even need a car in the city, though it is a convenience. The mechanic across the street, whom we trust, is planning one last trip to a car auction in PA before he retires and heads south to FL; if he returns with cars to our liking we might consider buying one. Or we might revert to carlessness and join zipcar for errands and rent cars or take the train for longer trips.
