Actually, I think the opening paragraph said it was the worst "in the post WWII era." Not quite the same as "ever" which the headline claims.
But it was certainly an intersting essay. And I think it's also fair to say that this has been the worst decade of my life, in a personal sense, too. Let's hope things will improve in the teens.
