You can play it in "real-life", too: just pick two people, imagine putting them in a room together, and then imagine who comes out alive.

Or they might be civil to each other and nothing would happen at all. Besides, the criterion in Brackets of Evil is evilness which does not necessarily correlate with likeliness to prevail in combat.
