Live Journal combines blogging with social networking and as such occupies its own niche. As a blogging platform it's not as nimble as blogspot, wordpress, or Tumblr, and Facebook is clearly state of the art for pure social networking. I hope it doesn't fall between those two stools. If, however, it cannot continue independently, rather than folding and disappearing the lesser evil would be being acquired by a more sophisticated blogging platform that aspires to improve its social networking function by importing an existing community of loyal users. Alternatively, and less desirable, it could become a blogging application on Myspace or Facebook.

Well, LiveJournal is not a blog, was never intended to be a blog site, and is not in same category. Facebook sucks as blog site, as does Myspace. Wordpress is a pain in the ass to set-up, has too many files that open and close for the more minor function of the software, and makes me dizzy just trying to configure it properly.

As I mentioned in journal, or WILL mention in a little bit, is that LJ has and has always had a large resource of volunteer workers. Truth be told... LJ probably didn't need those employees let go, them not being essential to the day-to-day running of the site.

We'll just have to wait and see.

I'm sticking with LJ as long as there is LJ. I'll probably set up a facebook page anyway, as my kid was talking to me about it for a few months. But I want to have my LJ, dammit!

I'm not even half a techie!

Dammit!

And happy new year!

I'm not planning to leave. Facebook serves a different purpose; when you get yours set up let me know. Happy New Year!

I'm glad you're not leaving. If I'd wanted to just socially network, then I would have just focused on the other networking sites. As it is, I've pretty much been ignoring Friendster, because I get spam. Besides, even though I'd actually met one new person on Friendster, I'm just not too keen on it. One of the things I like about LJ is the blog feature.

And I have the best friends page in the world!

Shoshana joined Facebook recently, and in under a month she's connected/reconnected with 90something people she knows in real life. It definitely has its place.

Well, that's encouraging. I've connected with a few people on Plaxo, and I think that Facebook might be okay. But I really want to keep my LJ, too!

I'm on Plaxo too; it's where some of my friends who are not on LJ read my LJ posts.
