I'm hoping my friend's friends can put me up in Chicago in 2 weeks, but if not I'll need an inexpensive hotel in burbs. Recommendations?

hmm, 2 weeks. Is $100 a night inexpensive?

I made a reservation at the Prospect Heights Super 8: $49/night, includes wifi & spartan breakfast (muffins & bagels). Got decent reviews on Trip Advisor and hotels dot com (but I made the reservation directly so I can cancel before 6pm the first day).

$49 is great. I didn't know it went that low.

First I did searched on hotels dot com, next compared their reviews with those on tripadvisor dot com, and last made the reservation on the hotel chain's own website to afford maximum flexibility should I need to cancel. Usually works well. There have been occasions where the hotel chain's price is higher than those of the reservation services, but they will usually give the lower price if I phone and ask. I might be able to get a fancier room for the same $ by bidding on priceline, but then I would have to take whatever comes up and would have less flexibility should I need to cancel.
