I have a trade paperback edition of Too Many Songs by Tom Lehrer. My brother gave it to me for my birthday one year, because he knew I loved Lehrer.

It is a cherished possession.

The male water polo players are probably hot--I didn't watch the event, but I admired the men's swimming & diving teams--for sure!

Good to know about. Last year I was looking for the lyrics to "God Bless You, Jerry Mandlebaum."

I like your user pic, [livejournal.com profile] dangerouslysane :)

Thank you, sweetie! It's a self-portrait I took in March of this year. Big event when I have a photo of me that I like, too. :)

I can look those lyrics up--okay, here's the bad news--it's not in this collection. (Neither is Gustav & Walter & Franz). But, to be fair, it's not a complete anthology of Lehrer's work. It includes selections from: Songs by Tom Lehrer, An Evening With Tom Lehrer and That Was The Week That Was. Also, the full title of the collection is: TOO MANY SONGS BY TOM LEHRER with not enough drawings by Ronald Searle.

For God Bless You, Jerry Mandlebaum, however, I'd suggest you check out the late, great Allan Sherman--that's from the 1960's, and I think that Sherman was the one who made that one--it sounds more like him to me.

All this evokes memories now. We had You Don't Have To Be Jewish, Allan Sherman, Tom Lehrer, Vaughn Meader's The First Family (when Lenny Bruce hit the stage after the Kennedy assassination, one of the first things he said was Poor Vaughn Meader!.

I'm still looking to replace my copy of The Essential Lenny Bruce. I still have How To Talk Dirty & Influence People, which is a good thing, because I'm quite certain that it's out of print, too.

Okay, enough free-association for the day! I hope you and Shoshana are enjoying your free time, now! *g*

Slaps his head--of course its Alan Sherman.

My parents saw Lenny Bruce perform that line just after 11/22/63. I really enjoyed reading How To Talk Dirty & Influence People when I was in High School.

Thanks; our free time ends tomorrow.
