I read friends' books without waiting for reviews. My friend Tsipi Keller's novel "Jackpot" is a beach novel I enjoyed, but her sequel "Retelling" is more demanding but also more rewarding. I also recommend bethr's unpublished novel "Tantra" (ask her to email you a copy).

All three are page turners; I enjoyed the psychological tension (all three) and the prose styles (bethr more so than Tsipi). These books are not great works of literature, but I enjoyed them all the same.

"Tantra" is a tale of sexual/romantic obsession. Ask bethr to email you the file, or email me & I'll attach it to a reply.

"Jackpot" is a story of the protagonist's psychological disintegration while on vacation at a casino resort in the Bahamas.

"Retelling" is sort of a cross between Proust and Kafka. The protagonist is coping with life after her best friend's murder. Like Proust it is a first person stream of consciousness narrative including observations of ordinary everyday phenomena, and like Kafka's "The Trial" the protagonist is a suspect in a criminal investigation. Formally there are no paragraph breaks: each chapter is a solid block of text that is both left and right justified. This conveys the protagonist's continuous train of thought.
