I just saw a great commercial. All these people are asking this bush questions like "why are our jobs going overseas?", "Why are we in Iraq?" etc. Then they said "It's ridiculous to think you're going to get an answer from this bush. But it's just as ridiculous to think you're going to get an answer from this one." And then they showed a photo of George. I shouldn't laugh...it's really not funny. I wanted to secede from the Union when he got elected.
I loved those images of the blue states & Canada as a single country and the red states as Jesusland, but I now realize we are falling into just the polarizing trap that Karl Rove has set for us by his 51% strategy. The opposite approach is Howard Dean's 50 state strategy--not conceding a single state. The country is more purple than the partisans of both sides will admit.
I actually posted that map on my journal, but I think I offended my friend the Bishop with it. (I was Catholic, but I'm what they call a "fallen" Catholic -- I tend to refer to myself as a heathen) As I explained to him, if I thought all the people invoking Christ's name nowadays actually followed some of the tenets like love and mercy and forgiveness, I wouldn't have a problem with the religious Right. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of that love and mercy and forgiveness going around these days....particularly not among the Religious Right.
As for secession, they wouldn't let it happen anyway, otherwise I'd be campaigning for NYC to separate from NY State. :) Divide and conquer has always been a primary strategy. Us vs. Them mentality. It distracts people from the real solutions, keeps us all at each other's throats instead of concentrating our efforts on the people who should be held accountable and the things that really should be changed. Nobody plays that game better than politicians.
