if we differn from chimps by only about 5% of enetic material or so, then I rather expect that folks of differing races have 98-99% of genetic material in common.
On the other hand, this is something that I have always intuitied.
Actually we have 98-99% of the same DNA as chimps. The differences among humans is miniscule, race is a cultural not a biological construct, and there is more genetic variation among individuals of the same ehtnicity than there are between any two ehtnicities.
yeah, I couldn't remember the exact figure (obviously) but I knew we were VERY similar.
Point being, we are all much more similar than we are different. As you say, the differences and walls are largely artificial. f'rinstance, you're a Jew, I'm not ... so what? we're both human beings with very real needs and wants and whatnot.
