The world seems to be full of people who have a certain
regrettable need to
control other people. Rather than indulge in labeling of these
people, we
should perhaps assist them in self-identifying and then seeking
help for
their affliction. So, in the spirit of the self-help craze, you
might be a
control freak if...

10. You believe there is a right way and a wrong way to do
everything--and
you know just what those are.

9. You believe that "rights" come with (or, more precisely,
after)
responsibilities, and that no-one can have "rights" until they've
taken care
of the preceding responsibilities.

8. You think that voting, paying taxes, and cheerfully enduring
other
similar kinds of oppression are duties everyone owes to some
floating
abstraction like the state or the country or the government.

7. You often think or say things like: There ought to be a law!

6. You have Opinions about what other people do and do not
"need"--and you'd
like to see your Opinions rule others' lives and choices.

5. You think that groups and communities are more important than
individuals, and thus the former two properly trump individuals'
autonomy.

4. You are utterly certain of what the One True Religion is--and
you want
everyone else to "share" your certainty.

3. You know just what The Rules are--and you are certain that
everyone else
should follow (or be compelled to follow) them, too.

2. You know what the Plan is for every person's life--and that
they should
be compelled to adhere to it, if necessary.

And most of all....

1. Deep inside you, there is a small, unhappy child, who never
felt any
sense of control while growing up, and you have never faced this
child and
given him or her the comfort of showing that you both are now
grown into an
adult with control over your life, with all of the rights and
powers that
come with adulthood. And, thus, you feel the need to control all
and sundry
to give some sense of serenity to that small child.
