We met my BIL and niece at the Bronx Zoo yesterday. By the time we got there the parking lots were full, so we had to park on the street. The car kept clonking out when idling, which our garage guy has since explained was due to Shoshana killing the battery a week ago (she left the parking lights on--something I've done before too) which wiped out the car's computer's memory. The remedy, according to garage guy, is to let it idle in Drive for 15 minutes, turn it off for 5 minutes, and then start it up again. Anyway, the zoo was very crowded, but the animals were fun. Our 11 year old niece Naomi said the tiger was her favorite. There was practically no traffic on the way home, and we had dinner at Veggie Castle where the food was delicious. They played Sirius radio's reggae channel really LOUD, which was OK for the short time it took to order on the cafeteria style line and eat. Today Shoshana is hanging out with her brother and niece in Manhattan and will attend a NY Liberty game at MSG. I have the place to myself until late evening.

Ooh, the Bronx Zoo! One of my favorite childhood stomping grounds! (I bet it's more crowded now than it was in the 1960's -- I don't remember my parents ever having trouble parking there.)

I don't remember it ever being as crowded as it was yesterday. They had this big advertising campaign to get people to visit & then they couldn't handle the number of visitors.

I went there many years ago

I went there as I was moved by the advertising in the subways, but I was disappointed. There was a lot of walking, and the people were very unfriendly. I wish I had skipped it, in favor of other things. I ran out of time for the Status of Liberty because of that. Then I realized I was 24, and apparently too old to have fun at the zoo.

Also, SF has a decent zoo whose collection of animals mostly overlaps that of The Bronx Zoo, so why do that activity on a trip away from home?

OTOH, I enjoy looking at animals, and I also enjoy walking; I recall enjoying visits to zoos in Paris, Washington DC and Binghamton, NY.

The San Francsico Zoo is not that great, and of coures, I had been there a million times. The San Deigo Zoo I really liked, but I think I had become old for zoo, but I had not realized it until then. The trill was gone. I only have back to the zoo when I am with a class field trip in the past few years. Often I feel sorry for the animals.
