That would indeed rock.

This pissed me off:

Same sex marriage supporters have cited civil rights as an issue in the debate, which got Bill Hogan's attention. "It occurs to me that there is a civil rights issue," he said. "The presumption when asked by somebody I'm just meeting that I'm married, that -- oh -- to a man or a woman? I think that change of the definition violates civil rights for those of us who have a traditional view of marriage."

ARGH. No, Mr. Hogan, your civil rights are not violated by other people's assumptions (or lack thereof) about the sex of your spouse and is not even remotely the same issue as your LGBT neighbor's legal prohibition against even having a spouse of their preference. Talk about a complete lack of understanding of civil rights. ARGH.

That would be extremely satisfying. As long as SSM is court-imposed, there's going to be continuous roiling about it. But once Legislatures start backing it, the debate will be closed.

I agree. Here in NY it is very frustrating that three conservative Democrats representing conservative religious constituencies are preventing SSM from being voted into law, and there are no longer any liberal Republicans to make up the difference.
