preview of Shoshana's paintings in the BWAC Fall Show (9/13-10/26 weekends only)

Last week was the last weekend of the BWAC Summer Show. Tomorrow we'll take down Shoshana's unsold paintings from that show and hang two new paintings for the fall show:

Tumescence Tumescence (24"x24" acrylic on plexiglas)

and

Postclimax
Post Climax (24"x24" acrylic on plexiglas)

Plexglas as a substrate - are they meant to be illuminated from behind?

Who is asking?

They are reverse paintings. Viewing the pigment through the plexiglas intensifies the colors. They should be lit from the front. You can see more of her paintings at the artist's website (http://shoshcooper.com).

Since they are reverse paintings it may be more accurate do describe the medium as "acrylic under plexiglas."
