touring philly

We took the PATCO commuter train into Philadelphia yesterday, a day I spent much too much time on my feet. We walked around Society Hill and for lunch had veggie cheesesteaks made out of the same stuff as the veggie shwarma that we had the previous evening at a middle eastern restaurant in Cherry Hill, NJ. We also had a slice of pumpkin bread. We walked around downtown philly and visited the Rodin Museum (don't bother if you've already seen the Rodins at the Brooklyn Museum of Art or the Metropolitan Museum of Art in nyc) and Philadelphia Museum of the Arts which has a fine permanent collection and featured an exhibit of a local artist, Tom Chimes as well as an exhibit of contemporary works on paper. We had dinner at Bocca, a family style Italian restaurant where we had Salmon with bowtie pasta in a lemony dill pesto. The train ride back took 20 minutes.

Very nice. I love Rodin sculptures...there's just something about them that's always fascinated me, I can't stop looking at them.

I particularly like the Zhang Huan on the site you linked to as well.

I love the Rodin museum in Philadelphia! That, and Reading Terminal Market were my two favorite places when I visited a few years ago.

Mmm. My MIL's apt. building is directly across the river from the Museum --- you probably saw it but it's not the kind of building that would make an impact (1970s white 15-story) --- the building with the time and advertising around it is much more noticeable.

Also my FIL's law firm is in the big building with the pointy decorated top. Inside the top is the Pyramid Club, which is, as you might expect, a private dining club for Philly's "business elite." S. always brings a tie with him when he visits his parents, because his father likes to parade him around up there in front of all the other old capitalists, inc. Arlen Specter, when he's in town.
