It's interesting how in this Coletrane/Hartman interpretaion (following an earlier Sinatra version) the
lyrics are altered from Strayhorn's
original words and line breaksIn the opening stanza "with distant gay traces" becomes "With distingue traces," in the next stanza "pointed smile" becomes "poignant smile," in the third stanza "assured" becomes "so sure," and "the thoughtful of heart" becomes "A trough full of hearts," and in the penultimate stanza "and yet" becomes "while yet."
I'm not pointing this out as criticism of Sinatra or of Hartman whose interpretation of this song is my favorite. Perhaps they actually improved the original.
