When I did our taxes last spring we had a lot of capital gains to report and pay taxes on & the tax program suggested that Shoshana increase her withholdings which she did. Of course so far this year the stock market has been lousy and unless there is a year end rally we'll likely have losses not gains to report, and with the extra withholdings we'll have given the govt an interest free loan. Recently the lower pay check plus two big insurance bills and a temporary four month $173 increase in our co-op apt maintenance to pay for building repairs means that we have less than $140 in checking until Shoshana's next paycheck in 9 days, and we don't want to dip into savings. Since we pay for almost everything with plastic and we're at the start of new billing periods we should be OK, but the $ situation + PMS makes Shoshana rather tense and irritable. If I sell a lot of books at my reading tomorrow evening that might help.
