[livejournal.com profile] anaisdjuna visited me yesterday. After a tour of our loft apartement, we drove to Veggie Castle in Flatbush, the Rastafarian cafeteria style vegetarian restaurant for lunch, which we both agreed was delicious. [livejournal.com profile] anaisdjuna mentioned that she'd like to hit some used clothing stores, so after lunch we drove to Canal Jeans on Nostrand Ave near Brooklyn College where she bought a dozen velour dresses for $81 and I bought 2 gym shorts and 3 boxers for $17. After paying for our purchases we put them in the trunk of the car and walked around the Brooklyn College campus. Then we returned to the car and drove to Boro Park, the Hasidic neighborhood where we parked and walked around; [livejournal.com profile] anaisdjuna bought a Hasidic music CD, and in a bakery she asked for a single ruggelach and they gave it to her gratis. I drove her a few blocks to a subway station and we said thanked each other for a lovely afternoon and said goodbye.

On the drive home the car's temperature gauge was up in the 5/8-3/4 range, which is worrying, considering that we had gone short distances and had parked and let the engine rest and cool at least a half an hour 3 times (at the restaurant, at the clothing store, and in Boro Park), especially considering that I had just replaced the car's thermostat. The repair guy was supposed to be here an hour and a half ago this morning. Long out of town trips look doubtful in the near future and perhaps ever (at least in this car).

Our second out of town guests were supposed to arrive at 5 but got caught in traffic and didn't show up until 7. [livejournal.com profile] frenchgirl4u and her boyfriend Richie are obviously in love and are intellegent, accomplished people and delightful company. [livejournal.com profile] frenchgirl4u is studying for her third masters degree (she plans to be a nurse practitioner), is active in the Democratic party in her town, and volunteers on both rape crisis and suicide hotlines. We walked 8 blocks to Olive Vine, a middle eastern restaurant. We got back and said goodbye at around 9:30; I didn't get to bed until 1:30. I'm hoping to get to the gym today, but I really need more sleep. We hadn't done much socializing in a while, and these two visits were a treat.
