Ideal decision making is undermined by irrational behaviors (how you act) and irrational motives (why you act). The ideal is to prioritize understanding/knowledge (type 5 behavior) in choosing how to act and why to act. If your main type and mean type are both five, you are usually driven by understanding/knowledge. For any other type combo, your decision making is compromised to some degree by irrationality. Example, you want success (type 3) because you can't tolerate being a nobody (a motivation which makes no rational sense). The root cause of irrationality is motivation based more on feelings and instincts than knowledge/understanding.
