It actually doesn’t work for me. The person listed as closest in location is in Portland Oregon, which is not even very close. No one in California was even listed. It would work better if it analyzed my interests and found people who had similar interests to me.
What it did for you was it seemed to pull out all of my friends and suggest that you add those people. I see my entire friends list there. One could simply go to their friends list, and try to add all of those friends, but those people may not be the same who have similar interests to you.
I found there are a number of add me group on live journal. People post there when they want new friends. Most people on live journal don’t want new friends, and tell people to go away in huge big letters. So I viewed the add me groups, and then selected only those who I had some common interest with. For example someone 16 years old in high school, I have nothing in common with them. Most of the posts were like that. I already found some that would work in terms of my age, 40, and interests.
