Time Warner Cable sucks (or is it Earthlink?)

We seem to be having outages every 2 weeks. This time the TV signal is fine, but our cable modem is out. We have a service appointment in Tuesday, and unless service is restored before then we'll have to use our Earthlink dial-up (Earthlink gives us 23 hours a month of dial-up to use as a back up should their cable internet service fail). I expect to be on-line a tad less in the interim.

update

Turns out it was just temporary. Broadband is back!

every two weeks! that is horrible.

We're seriously considering switching to DSL & getting a dish for TV. The whole point of paying a premium for cable is more reliable service (though cable broadband is faster than DSL, and cable TV offers In Demand programs not contingent on an arbitrary schedule).

I read all that stats saying cable is faster than dsl, but I really dont see any difference. Verizon has had 6 partial days out in 1 1/2 years for a comparision.

Hmmm free dial-up as back up?.......that would have been my first clue as i was reading the service contract before signing up with them

The dial-up feature is marketed as something useful when away from home.

why i would be suspicious if i ever saw dial-up service back-up offered:

the majority of 'away from home' locations are all equipped with high speed hookups. these days
---[that's my perception]

----appears that they knew their service was going to be down alot.

It actually has been useful; we bring our laptop with us when we stay at my in-laws who do not own a computer and borrow their phone line.

then it has a use for you ......good deal
