Grammar is humankind's greatest invention. Other species of animals can create audible calls that convey meanings. We alone have the architecture to weave those calls into clauses, sentences, and paragraphs that convey complex ideas and emotions. Whether or not our brains are wired for language grammar had to be invented; it is not innate or instinctive. No grammar, no language, and without language none of our many accomplishments as a species (not to mention civilization) would have been possible.
