Hebrew Priestesses
Nov. 19th, 2008 03:28 pmAbout a month ago Shoshana and I had dinner at the home of
rabjeff and
paulacnm. In the course of conversation I asked
paulacnm to tell us about her training to become a Hebrew Priestess at Kohenet: The Hebrew Priestess Institute. She described the ritual role of a Hebrew Priestess as creating female centered rituals to mark life cycle occasions that the traditional rabbinic tradition has overlooked such as a miscarriage, a divorce, the beginning or end of a non-marital romantic and/or sexual relationship, menopause, starting a new business or profession (especially for women returning to the world of paid work). She showed us some of the anthologies she uses to find poems and other texts to use in such rituals quite of few of which are neo-pagan publications, and the program seems to combine Jungian, neo-pagan, traditional Jewish and Jewish Renewal approaches. For more information see the Kohenet: The Hebrew Priestess Institute website.
